Walmart’s Flipkart and Amazon India Will Eliminate Single-Use Plastic in Their Packaging

Amazon India recently pledged to replace single-use plastic with paper cushions to protect products in transit, while Walmart’s Flipkart even more recently announced its intention to transition to recycled plastic consumption by March of 2021. The announcements come as the Indian government mulls steps to reduce plastic waste in the country.

In a statement, Akhil Saxena, VP of Customer Fulfillment at Amazon India, said the company will also train its sellers who directly fulfill customer orders to curb their reliance on single-use plastic. “This investment in protecting the environment ensures a triple win — it is good for our planet, good for our customers and community, and good for the business,” he said.
