Walmart Rolls Out New Fleet of Floor-Scrubbing Robots
Walmart floors will soon be spick and span thanks to a fleet of 360 floor-scrubbing robots which will be released into select stores around the end of January.
The robots, which are already scrubbing floors in airports across the country, are a product of San Diego startup Brain Corp.
According to Walmart vice president of central operations John Crecelius, the addition of these robots will free associates from repetitive tasks and allow them to focus more on serving customers.
“We can take anything that has wheels and turn it into a fully autonomous robot, provided that it can go slow and stopping is never a safety concern,” said Brain Chief Executive Office Eugene Izhikevich. “And it’s more than just navigation. It is to robots what Android operating system is to smartphones.”
