Walmart Is Introducing Robots to 650 More Stores
Walmart sees robots as assistants to its associates, taking care of repetitive tasks (such as scanning shelves for out-of-stocks) in order to free up human associates for more specialized tasks. Automation in the workplace has drawn critical attention recently, the concern being that robots will replace human workers. Walmart points to a changing retail landscape and says robots can help make associates’ jobs more satisfying.
“These new technologies are helpful, but they’re more than simply convenient,” said Elizabeth Walker, Walmart Corporate Affairs. “The idea is that by leaning into the future, associates will be able to have more satisfying jobs as retail continues to change.”
