Walmart Debuts Cashierless Store in Florida

Last week, Walmart opened a Neighborhood Market store that combines a few different initiatives into what the retailer hopes will be a more convenient way for customers to shop. The cashierless store in Coral Way, Florida offers same-day delivery, online grocery pickup, and a program that Walmart calls Check Out With Me. Check Out With Me eliminates the need for standard checkouts involving lines and cashiers (especially when combined with self-checkout). Instead, associates can check out shoppers through a handheld device from anywhere in the store.

Walmart is just one of many retailers trying to balance consumer demand for faster checkout with shopper reluctance around different tech options aimed to boost the experience.
