Walgreens Plans More Small Stores in Big Cities

Walgreens is making plans to bring smaller, health-and-wellness-focused stores to big urban areas in the U.S. The pharmacy store chain is increasing its cost-cutting measures, working to remain competitive in a changing retail environment, and reassessing its real estate investments and the way it makes use of them is part of that effort.

“We’ve got about … 30 or 40 now actively in the ground,” Walgreens Co-Chief Operating Officer Alex Gourlay told analysts about the new small store developments… “And we’re pleased with the results.”
