Vocal Amazon HQ2 Opponent Nominated to Position in Which He Could Kill Deal
The majority of the New York State Senate just nominated Sen. Michael Gianaris to a seat on the New York State Public Authorities Control Board. It’s the same board from which Amazon needs approval to build its planned HQ2 headquarters in Queens. Though the board is made up of five members, each member has veto powers.
In other words: all Gianaris would need to do is vote no, and the deal would not go through. Amazon would need to either start from the beginning on negotiating a new deal, or pick up its pieces and go home.
