Unemployment Soars, but Retail Giants Are Hiring
Around 20.5 million people lost their jobs in April as the coronavirus prompted mass closings and shutdowns. But some retail giants are on a hiring spree as that same coronavirus causes a spike in demand. Grocery stores and e-commerce companies are bringing in thousands upon thousands of new employees to help cope with increased demand. Among these are Walmart, Costco, and Amazon.
Amid the carnage of the US employment report for April was one bright spot: Superstores led by Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, added more than 90,000 jobs.
