Toys “R” Us Opens the First of Its New Stores

On Wednesday, Toys “R” Us opened the first of its new stores just in time for the holiday shopping season. Richard Barry, chief executive of Tru Kids, the owner of Toys “R” Us, pointed to a “reimagined” toy-shopping experience. The store in New Jersey is the first of ten stores planned for the next year. These stores will be smaller than the old Toys “R” Us locations, and even more interactive.

“Historically, Toys R Us stores were 40,000-square-feet, large big box locations,” Barry said. “What we’ve looked to do here is completely re-imagine the shopping experience and the buying experience by really embracing experiential retailing.”
