The FDA Recalls Several Brands of Dog Food Over Toxic Levels of Vitamin D

The Food and Drug Administration has recalled eight brands of dog food over concerns of toxic levels of vitamin D. High levels of the vitamin can cause weight loss, kidney failure, and death. Some of the food recalled had more than 70 times the intended amount of vitamin D. Brands included in the recall are ELM Pet Foods, Sunshine Mills, Natural Life Pet Products, and brand-name dog foods from Kroger and Lidl.

Pet owners should not feed the recalled food to their dogs and retailers shouldn’t sell the foods, the FDA advises.
