The 2019 Holiday Shopping Season Was Heavy on Promotions
2019’s holiday shopping season may have been the most promotional since the recession, according to Roxanne Meyer, managing director of MKM Partners. Merchandising and inventory issues combined with a shorter holiday shopping window to produce a very markdown-heavy season. That was bad news for some of retail’s weaker players.
For those department stores and apparel sellers forced into price wars, it could mean they’ll be carrying their struggles into 2020.
