Shopify Sells Itself as the Anti-Amazon, and It’s Working
As scrutiny of Amazon’s practices intensifies, one competitor is marketing itself as an alternative that gives small businesses the opportunity to grow and thrive on their own terms, and not on an e-commerce giant’s. Brands operating through Shopify control their own marketing, pricing, and supply chain; they each have their own branded store. Shopify says this independence contributes to an increase in healthy competition and a spreading around of economic prosperity.
Shopify now has a million businesses using its service. From 2016 to 2018, the platform generated $183 billion in economic activity around the world.
