Retailers Impose Purchase Limits on High-Demand Items

Retailers such as Walmart, Target, Publix, and Kroger are limiting the number of high-demand items that shoppers can purchase at a time. Citing “high demand” or “increased demand,” these retailers are trying to forestall panic buying as the coronavirus sparks fears of possible quarantine, as well as concerns that stores will run out of hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, and even basics like toilet paper.

Experts say the rationing and limits should have started earlier and could have prevented price gouging and hoarding.
