Portland, Oregon Grocery Workers Strike; California May Be Next
Unions for grocery employees in Portland, Oregon voted to authorize strikes against Albertsons, Safeway, QFC, and Fred Meyer.
The authorization came just after local unions in Southern California authorized strikes of Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions supermarkets.
Members have delivered petitions to store management in the union’s jurisdiction that request “an equitable wage increase that makes it possible for us to live in our communities and buy groceries at our stores,” UFCW 555 said.
