Pepsi Plans to Launch an Orbital Billboard

PepsiPepsi has hired Russian-based company StartRocket to manage its first “orbital billboard.” The billboard will travel through the sky and advertise for a non-alcoholic energy drink called Adrenaline Rush. StartRocket uses miniature satellites to project an image with reflected sunlight. StartRocket charges $20,000 for eight hours of advertising. Critics say the medium could run into issues with drones or zoning problems. Supporters say it could revolutionize advertising.

The potential launch of PepsiCo’s orbital billboard, still several years out, matches up with the marketer’s other recent efforts to breathe fresh life into its outdoor advertising.
