New Technologies May Soon Change Checkout Forever
Retail checkout hasn’t changed much in many years. Though it no longer requires a cashier to scan items and run payments, the process is still mostly the same. That could all change soon, as new technologies capable of eliminating lines and hassle emerge. Amazon’s cashierless Go stores have attracted a lot of press, but the coming changes to checkout don’t stop there.
Conceptually, the model of taking a product or basket of things to a cash register and handing over payment is being blown up by a number of technologies that have been developed.
