More Than 600 Companies Asked Trump Not to Initiate Tariffs
More than 600 companies nationwide — including major retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Target, and Macy’s — sent a letter to the Trump Administration imploring the president not to initiate the tariffs on Chinese goods because of the effects they will have on American consumers. The letter stated that negotiations could achieve trade goals “without taxing Americans.”
“Broadly applied tariffs are not an effective tool to change China’s unfair trade practices,” the letter reads. “Tariffs are taxes paid directly by US companies, including those listed below— not China.”
