Microsoft Closes Retail Stores for Good
In the last ten years, Microsoft has made an effort to compete with Apple’s retail presence with its own retail stores featuring Microsoft hardware and software. Microsoft even opened one of these stores on Fifth Avenue in New York City, blocks from the famous glass cube Apple store. Now, after closing stores in response to the coronavirus, Microsoft has made the decision not to open them again. All eighty-three Microsoft Store retail locations will close. Microsoft says it is shifting its focus online.
Microsoft said its retail team members will help on the website instead of in-store. A Microsoft spokesperson told CNBC that all the employees will have the opportunity to stay with the company.
