Last year Lidl announced plans to open 100 U.S. stores by 2018. But it appears the German grocery giant isn’t wasting any time and is on track to make the Lidl U.S. debut this summer, with plans to open the 100 locations within a year. According to a company presentation Lidl will not present its stores as discount grocers, but rather a hybrid similar to Trader Joe’s.

“Lidl’s first 20 U.S. stores will be located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Lidl, which operates some 10,000 stores in 27 countries, has opened a U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, and is building distribution centers in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.”
