Google Acquires Fitbit for $2.1 Billion

In a deal that could mean good things for both parties, Google has agreed to purchase Fitbit for $2.1 billion.

Google has had a hard time successfully breaking into the wearables category, while Fitbit has seen the value of its business decline. That could soon change as the two companies join forces.

While Google has also invested in a lot of its own in-house development, buying Fitbit represents a step-change and a bolt-on of years of effort focused specifically on the wearables category.
