Gap Will Hire Fewer Holiday Workers
While retailers up their hiring game to attract workers for the crucial holiday shopping season, Gap will also hire thousands more workers – but only half as many as last year. In 2018, Gap sought to bring in 65,000 holiday workers; this year, the retailer is looking for about 30,000. It’s an attempt on the retailer’s part to offer more hours to existing employees.
Hiring plans often indicate sales expectations of retailers and come against the backdrop of a softening retail environment and a prolonged U.S.-China trade war that has threatened to increase costs for retailers.
