Flipkart, Amazon India Break Records on the First Day of Their Festive Season Sales

Flipkart’s Big Billion Days and Amazon’s Great Indian Festival events began on Saturday, and both raked in record sales. Despite slowing economic growth in India and government regulation of foreign retail, as well as hostility from Indian companies (one trader body asked the government to ban Amazon and Flipkart’s festive sales events), consumers in India flocked to the online retailers, whose sales will end on October 4th.

Flipkart and Amazon began their flagship annual sales on Saturday, with both vying for customers during the October-December festive season when Indians make most of their big-ticket purchases.
