CVS and UPS Partner to Deliver Prescription Meds Via Drone

UPS has its commercial drone program up and running, and a new partnership with CVS will allow the pharmacy retailer to deliver prescription medications to customers’ homes.

The first tests were successful, with CVS pharmacists filling the prescription, a UPS worker loading the order onto a drone, and the drone making the flight autonomously from the store to the house.

UPS received approval last month from the FAA to fly its fleet of commercial drones in service of customers, and now it plans to iterate its drone delivery program “in the coming months,” with the aim of ensuring that it can deploy UAVs in a commercial capacity at increasing scale.
