Costco and Instacart Pilot One-Hour Prescription Delivery

Costco members in California and Washington state can now have their medications delivered to their homes or offices within an hour. Instacart and Costco have partnered to launch prescription delivery, complete with HIPAA-trained couriers. Delivery for orders over $35 is free during the testing phase of the program. For orders under $35, the fee will vary, but should remain under $10. Neither company has offered any information concerning the future of the program.

The partnership with Costco is Instacart’s first foray into prescription delivery, though it has been considering making the leap from groceries to medications for years now.

Other major retailers, such as Amazon and Walmart, have explored prescription delivery. The latter has mail-order options in some locales, while Amazon bought online pharmacy PillPack last year.
