Coronavirus Hazard Pay Begins to Expire

Coronavirus hazard pay for workers is beginning to disappear. Kroger paid its employees a “hero bonus” of two dollars more an hour starting in April and ending in mid-May. Costco, Walmart, and Lowe’s also bumped pay for employees still coming into work during the spread of the pandemic. Now, retailers are letting those measures expire, despite pushback that says it is too soon.

According to Just Capital, other companies who’d bumped up their workers’ wages sometime since the coronavirus began to rage through the United States plan to let those expire.
