Arkansas Senate OKs Walmart-Backed Plan to Test Self-Driving Vehicles
The Arkansas Senate approved a bill that would allow Walmart, J.B. Hunt, and others to “test drive” autonomous vehicles on the state’s roads and highways. The bill now moves to the governor’s desk, where Gov. Asa Hutchinson is expected to sign it. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Austin McCollum, R-Bentonville, in the House and brought to the floor of the Senate by Mathew Pitsch, R-Fort Smith.
“The biggest point to make is that we already have companies in Arkansas that can do this in other states, 29 of them are already approved by statute,” Pitsch said. “By them doing it here in Arkansas, we bring technology and high-paying jobs and we invest back in our state.”
