Amazon Will Spend $700 Million to Train 100,000 Workers to Use New Technology
Amazon announced a plan to spend more than $700 million to train about 100,000 employees on new digital-era skills by 2025. The company has been pushing to add automation to places such as its distribution centers, but it wants to train employees to manage those automated devices and therefore improve the flow of traffic. Jeff Wilke, worldwide consumer CEO of Amazon, likened it to sending them to college.
“As technology changes work, they have the opportunity to advance in their career and take advantage of those changes,” Wilke said, adding “creating great jobs means that people can have a career that’s more than just the job they enter. And we think we have the responsibility to help them to acquire the skills that are going to be necessary as the world changes.”
