Amazon Wants to Open a Liquor Store in San Francisco
Amazon has plans to open a physical liquor store in San Francisco. Though it seems to have mastered cashierless technology with its Go stores, it isn’t clear whether its liquor store will be similarly automated. Amazon has already taken the first step by applying for a liquor license in the state of California.
Reportedly, this most recent foray into brick-and-mortar would double as a delivery hub.
First bodegas, now liquor stores; it’s just as my fellow Gizmodo reporter Bryan Menegus wrote earlier this summer: “In Amazon’s crusade to fill every nook and cranny of the known universe with smirking cardboard boxes, nowhere is safe.” Not even the liquor cabinet.
