Amazon Opens “Dark” Whole Foods Stores

Amid huge demand for grocery delivery, Amazon is opening several more “dark” Whole Foods stores. These stores don’t allow customers inside. Instead, employees in dark stores fill online grocery orders for delivery. The latest Whole Foods store to go dark is located in Chicago. Others are located in New York City, Baltimore, Austin, and San Francisco.

“With stay-at-home orders in place, customers have generated unprecedented demand for grocery delivery,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “As we navigate the challenges associated with COVID-19, we continue to find ways to increase delivery availability while navigating safety measures and social distancing.”
