Amazon Launches New FBA Program to Donate Unsold Merchandise

Amid reports of widespread destruction of unsold merchandise, Amazon has launched a new FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) program, called FBA Donations, designed to save excess inventory from the landfills – and Amazon from a potential PR crisis.

Originally, Amazon charged 50 cents to return unsold merchandise to sellers, compared to 15 cents charged to simply destroy it. The new program, available in the U.S. and the U.K., should make donating products much more affordable for sellers.

“We know getting products into the hands of those who need them transforms lives and strengthens local communities,” Alice Shobe, the director of the company’s charitable giving arm called Amazon in the Community, said in a statement. “We are delighted to extend this program to sellers who use our fulfillment services.”
