Amazon Is Taking on Rakuten for E-Commerce Market Share in Japan

Amazon may have some kind of claim on half of all U.S. e-commerce transactions, but that’s not the case in Japan. The company is in fierce competition with Rakuten, which offers its customers a popular points-based loyalty program and a host of products and services in “Rakuten World.”

But in recent years, Amazon’s superior logistics capabilities and focus on price and convenience have allowed the company to capture greater market share.
