Amazon Is Reportedly Cracking Down on Counterfeits
Amazon is planning to report counterfeits more frequently to law enforcement, according to an anonymous source. Previously, Amazon only reported sellers of counterfeit goods when it thought it had gathered enough information for police to pursue the case. Now, Amazon plans to report to law enforcement every time it is able to confirm that a counterfeit product was sold. The change in policy would greatly increase the number of merchants being reported to law enforcement by Amazon.
The move comes as Amazon faces public scrutiny over how it polices counterfeits and allegedly unsafe products on its platform. Fakes have long frustrated top labels like Apple Inc and Nike Inc, discouraging some from selling via Amazon at all.
