Amazon Employees Plan to Walk Out Over Climate Change

Amazon employees are planning a walk-out as an expression of solidarity with a global strike against climate change. They are demanding that Amazon reduce its carbon footprint, cancel contracts with fossil-fuel companies, and stop funding politicians and lobbyists who deny the existence of climate change.

Amazon recently released a statement saying that its sustainability teams have been exploring ways to reduce its environmental impact. It also referenced an existing program to reduce shipment emissions. But employees want more than programs and promises from Amazon; they want “climate leadership.”

“We need bold, immediate climate action,” reads an informational letter sent by Amazon Employees for Climate Justice to a group of employees, “As a large, global company, we must demonstrate real climate leadership.”
