1,700 Stores Already Slated for Closure in 2020
While 2019 broke records for the number of store closings, the year 2020 could see even more. Already, 1,700 stores have been slated for closure in 2020, with one firm estimating that 12,000 major chain stores could close this year. Among the retailers contributing to the record numbers are Pier 1 Imports, Gap, Walgreens, and Forever 21.
More than 9,300 store closings were announced in 2019, smashing the previous record of roughly 8,000 store closures in 2017, according to an analysis by Business Insider.
