15% Pledge Calls for More Shelf Space for Black-Owned Businesses
Black people make up almost 15% of the population in the U.S., and a new initiative called the 15% Pledge wants similar representation on the shelves of major retailers. Target, Sephora, Whole Foods, and Shopbop were specifically called upon to take the pledge to give black-owned businesses more shelf space. Many retailers have made large donations to foundations dedicated to justice and advancement for black people, but the 15% Pledge wants changes closer to home.
And beyond corporate donations, the 15% Pledge could put money directly into the hands of black business owners and help build generational wealth in black communities.
